English as a Second Language Program
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program develops students’ English proficiency for effective communication in academics, business, the professions and daily life. The Program also encourages critical thinking and the use of English skills to aid humankind through the pursuit of positive moral values, and is thus dedicated to contributing to the betterment of society through high-quality English instruction.
The ESL Program offers classes at six levels in the areas of speaking/listening, reading, writing and grammar. Students take an assessment test before registering in order to be placed in the appropriate level. Elective courses are also offered in pronunciation, American idioms, academic writing and other subject areas. Class sizes are relatively small so that personalized attention and interaction with teachers is available to all ESL students.
The Program’s instructors are highly trained, committed and experienced and hold at least a master’s degree in the teaching of English as a second language, language education or a related field. Our faculty emphasizes caring, thorough and creative approaches to classroom instruction that make English learning fun and rewarding. |
